Dear Student:
Time is fast approaching for the first day (02/03/12 – Friday) of this course.
This class is one (1) 9-hour day plus four (4) 8-hour days in addition to required
pre-work (approximately 8 hrs). This is a combined class with the other Wildland Firefighting course.
John Roads and Karl Sieglaff will be team teaching the course.
We will be meeting all 5 days in Room 202 at the Tucson Public Safety Academy
at 10001 S. Wilmot Road, across from the State Prison. Room 202 is located
on the south side of the main courtyard to the west end. We will bring your
workbooks and all classroom handouts that you will need, the first day. The
cost is $35.00 per student. Make checks payable to Karl Sieglaff
or bring cash.
Payment must be made the morning of the first
day.
On the first day , payment and pre-course assignments are due at check-in.
Check-In begins at 0700 and continues until 0745. Class begins promptly at 0800.
Failure to check in promptly and provide assignments
and payment may result in a reduced letter grade for the course.
Please note class hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Day 1 and 8:00 AM
(promptly) to 5:00 PM the following four days. Do not expect to be
out of class before 5:00 PM (Superbowl or not (Spring Semester)). Call or email if you have questions.
PLEASE CALL MY CELL PHONE IF YOU ARE LATE TO CLASS OR CAN’T MAKE IT THAT DAY.
Additional Notes:
NOTE – PCC Structure Academy Students – All code of conduct rules apply, including dress (uniform red shirts) – FSC 160 however, does not require the class flag!!!! Your behavior and performance in FSC-160- may otherwise reflect on your total academy outcome.
This course is part of the requirements for the PCC Firefighter Certificate Program. Performance is expected in the program. Assignments are required and due when directed. Late assignments shall result in reduction of letter grades.
Previously certified wildland firefighters in the structure academy are not
required to retake this program unless they are looking for college credits.
Those taking the program over just for the credits must and shall provide copies
of the original S-130/190 certificates along with the I-100 Certificate and
the most recent NWCG Field Qualification record (red card) at check-in. If these
students meet these requirements, they may be dismissed from portions of the
class and/or may be utilized to assist with field day activities. If the field
qualification is more than 1 year old, the student must attend the refresher
part of the course. If the field qualification is more than 3 years old, the
student will be required to attend the entire program. See your instructor.
In the wildland environment, failure to follow instructions or failure to complete
assignments can lead to loss of income or even firefighter injuries or death.
In the college environment, these failures lead to grade reductions. Pre-course
assignments are to be completed pre-course. First day assignments are due first
day. Failure to meet each assignment timely will result in grade reductions.
Sleeping and/or talking in class may result in extra academic duties and/or dismissal from the
class.
First Day Check-In runs from 0700 to 0745. There will be check-in lines for
each Class CRN. To help save time, know which class CRN you are assigned to
prior to standing in the check-in line.
Since this is a joint class, multiple CRN’s are used to designate these classes.
You will be registered in one of the specific classes. Please note your CRN
so that you know which instructor you are assigned to for pre-work assignments
as well as any specific issues during the course.
